Isidore Kopernicki (b. 17 April 1825 in Czyżówce in the district zwinogródzkim , d. September 24 1891 in Krakow ) - anthropologist , brother philologist Valerian Kopernicki .
He studied medicine in Kiev ; in the years 1847-1859 was a military physician and during the Crimean War he was in the Crimea . In 1859 was prosector at the Cathedral of anatomy in Kiev, and for naturalists taught comparative anatomy . During the January Uprising in 1863 nursed wounded in Kaliski , then went to Paris (1864) and then to Bucharest (1865), where - staying there until 1871 - among others founded the museum anatomical and zootomiczne .
In 1871 he settled in Krakow, where in 1878, was an associate professor and in 1886 professor of anthropology. Numerous studies conducted very kraniologiczne both by measuring the skulls of people living and skulls of prehistoric times, especially the population of Galicia and other tribes of Slavic and Gypsy , Ainu and other tribes. The hearing of the Gypsies (1872) won him the prize anthropological societies in Krakow. This work announced in Diary of the Academy of Sciences in Krakow, in the " ECR messages to anthropology kraiowej " , published by the academy, in the "Revue d'anthropologie" et al. His other works related to archeology, prehistoric and ethnographic like hearing "The Highlanders in the vicinity of Rabka" , "The perceptions of medical and natural people" (1876) and others. Moreover, built a new kraniograf and improved methods of measuring skulls. Rich left his collections of anthropological Jagiellonian University .
