1850.11.27 4. A letter from Herman Merivale Esq., Under Secretary of State for the Colonies was read, accompanied by a MS account of the Damara Country in S. Africa 23˚ S. Lat. sent to the Society by Earl Grey Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies.
5. Resolved that a vote of thanks be sent to Earl Grey for the paper on the Damara Country.
6. Resolved that Dr Hodgkin be requested to report on the paper sent by Earl Grey.

Herman Merivale CB (8 November 1806 – 8 February 1874) was an English civil servant and historian. He was the elder brother of Charles Merivale, and father of the poet Herman Charles Merivale.
