Mr A.D. Passmore was a well-known antiquary and archaeologist from Wiltshire who donated his collection to the Ashmolean Museum in the mid 1950's
Arthur Dennis Passmore was an archaeologist and antiquarian from Swindon. A keen photographer as well, his interest in photography may have stemmed from his father, Richard Keylock Passmore, who worked as a photographer in Swindon during the 1860’s A.D. Passmore collected and recorded objects from archaeological excavations throughout Wiltshire and even assisted O.G.S. Crawford in a 1923 excavation of Stonehenge.
Arthur Dennis Passmore collected Chinese porcelain for 50 years. In 1957 he gave a number of Chinese porcelains to the Department of Oriental Antiquities. He also presented ceramics and glass to other Museum departments. He was a cabinet-maker and member of the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History and Prehistoric Societies.

Ashmolean, Oxford . A number of the objects in the Passmore Collection come from the area around Stonehenge. These consist of stone tools, and pottery. Most of these objects were found during the 1923 excavation of a section of the Avenue at Stonehenge. O.G.S. Crawford carried out this excavation, which Mr. Passmore assisted with.
