proposed 1866.10.29<br />Obit. in Man , 1920, 91 by Brabrook: Mr. Alfred Lionel Lewis was the son of a well-known instructor in the art of handwriting, and was himself a chartered accountant of distinction. ...<br />1873.04.01 A letter was read from Mr A.L. Lewis on the change of name of a new Anthropological Society, and the reply of the Director was approved.<br />1873.12.30 A proposal from Mr A.L. Lewis that the Council take certain models of ancient monuments in lieu of his subscriptions for five years, was considered, and it was agreed that Mr Lewis be asked [to] show some specimens of his models to the Council before the decision as to his proposal be given.<br />1874.01.13 The offer of Mr A.L. Lewis to dispose of a set of models to the Institute in lieu of five years’ subscriptions, was declined with thanks.<br />1875.11.23 The following letter from Mr A.L. Lane Fox FSA, President Anthropological Institute.<br />Dear Colonel,<br />At the meeting of the Council of the London Anthropological Society held last night it was resolved to recommend to a Special General Meeting to be held on 10th Dec. that the Society should be dissolved at the end of the year.<br />My object in writing this letter is to ask you whether in the event of that recommendation being accepted the Institute will be prepared to elect as Members all and any of the Fellows of the Society who shall signify in writing their desire to be elected Members of the Institute.<br />I am dear Colonel, yours very truly<br />(signed) A.L. He joined the Anthropological Society of London in 1866 and from then until his death was highly active in various societies including the Anthropological Institute and British Association.<br /><br />Born Lakenham, Norfolk; died Wallington.
