William Randal McDonnell, 6th Earl of Antrim (1851–1918)<br /><br />Antrim, 6th Earl of, William Randal McDonnell (1851-1918), became a Fellow of the ESL in November 1870. He was in his first year at Christ Church at the time. I have not been able to discover what he was reading but he appears to have gone down without taking his degree. Nor does he appear to have continued his fellowship into the Anthropological Institute in 1871. In fact it is not clear why he joined the ESL, but I think it can be assumed he made little contribution to the development of either anthropology or archaeology at Oxford. [Peter Riviere]
