Alexander Michie (1833-1902) was born in Earlsferry, Fifeshire though virtually his entire adult life was connected with the China trade while he was also an intrepid traveller across China, the local agent for Jardine Matheson in Tientsin and the editor of the Tientsin-based newspaper Chinese Times. For a time he acted as the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce at Shanghai.<br />Retired to England in 1895<br /><br />Michie's tufted deer is named for him
