=== Notes From Elsewhere ===
Friedrich Max Müller (December 6, 1823 – October 28, 1900), generally known as Max Müller, was a German-born philologist and Orientalist, who lived and studied in Britain for most of his life.

Friedrich Max Müller (1823-1900) was created an Hon Fellow of both the ESL and the ASL in the same year, 1865. This Hon. Fellowship was continued by the AI, but he did not play a very active role in either society. We have just noted that Lang engaged with him and like Lang we have no evidence that he took any part in the activities of the OAS, and in his case its connection with the ASL cannot stand as a reason for avoiding it.
