Pablo Martínez del Río ( Mexico City , May 10, 1892 - January 26 , 1963 ) was a Mexican historian and archaeologist . He specialized in studies of American prehistory . He was director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History and first of the National School of Anthropology and History . He was a member of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and the Society of Americanists. He was a member of the Mexican Academy of History , he occupied armchair 10, from 1938 to 1963. 1<br /><br />His investigations focused on the origin of the American man. He participated in the excavations of the Archaeological Zone of Tlatelolco in 1944 and in the discovery of the remains of the hominid that was considered the oldest for several decades in the Americas, the Man of Tepexpan .
