1896.11.24 Appointment of Assistant Secretary. Mr J.A. Webster was appointed to succeed Mr Doubleday as Assistant Secretary at the end of the present year.<br /><br />1897.02.23 proposed by F.G. Hilton Price<br /><br />1900.07.10 The President announced that after taking into consideration the rearrangement of the work of the Assistant Secretary which had been proposed in the report of the Executive Committee, Mr Webster had decided to place his resignation in the hands of the Council. He referred at length to the never failing courtesy and good-will which Mr Webster had displayed in the discharge of the duties of his office, and the devotion to the interests of the Institute, which had led him to tender his resignation when he found himself no longer equal to the work which was entailed.<br /><br />The Secretary, and Messrs Gowland and Dalton having expressed their opinion in similar terms, it was resolved: that the Council while accepting the resignation tendered by Mr Webster desires to express its appreciation of the unfailing courtesy and goodwill with which he had performed the duties of his office.<br /><br />In consequence of this decision, the following resolutions were proposed, and carried unanimously.<br /><br />1. That Mr Webster’s appointment should be regarded as terminating at Michaelmas 1900<br />

John Aplin Webster, formerly of Hankow, in China, then of No. 7, Milner-square, Islington, and now of No. 91, Ledbury-road. Bayswater, both in the county of Middlesex, formerly Acting British Consul in China, but now of<br />no occupation, having been adjudged bankrupt under a Petition tor adjudication of Bankruptcy, filed in Her<br />Majesty's Court of Bankruptcy, iu London, on the 2nd day of July, 1868, is hereby required to surrender himself<br />to the Registrar of the said Court, acting in the prosecution of the said Petition, at the first meeting of creditors,<br />to be held before the said Registrar, on the 22nd day of July instant, at twelve o'clock at noon precisely, at<br />the said Court. Mr. Edward Watkin Edwards, of No. 22, Basinghall-street, London, is the Official Assignee, and<br />Mr. W. Royle, of No. 40. Great Marlborough-street, is the Solicitor acting in the bankruptcy.
