Francis Dubois Lukis joined the army, but when he returned from a<br />posting in India he worked as an archaeologist in Derbyshire<br />born on the 16th November 1826. There is no record of him having attended Elizabeth College, but he did attend Trinity College, Cambridge. He later served in the army as a Captain and was in the Persian campaign of 1856-57. He was present during the Indian mutiny and was on the scene after the massacre at Cawnpore. Francis retired from the army in 1870, after which time he carried out excavations in Alderney. While in Derbyshire he excavated in the Peak District. After his retirement he lived with his father and sister in the family home in the Grange, which he partly inherited and on his father's death. Francis was also custodian of his father's museum collection, which he bequeathed to the island of Guernsey in accordance with his father's wishes. This transferral took place after his death in 1906
