Bogdanov, Anatoly Petrovich 1834-1896<br />Born in Moscow, Russia, Bogdanov studied zoology at Moscow University, graduating in 1855. In 1864, the Department of Anthropology was created at Moscow University, and in that same year Bogdanov was made full professor at the university and invited to take charge of this new department. In this position, which he retained until his death, Bogdanov made an important contribution to the development of the then still nascent discipline in Russia. In addition to his numerous publications, he was also responsible for producing many students, most notably Dimitrii N. Anuchin 1843-1923.<br />Bogdanov was an ardent Darwinist and published a number of works dealing with the theory of evolution
