The Physician, D. Luback, co-founder and editor of Album der natuur (for the propagation of natural philosophy among cultured readers of all stations), was somewhat concordistic but in 1862 was already convinced that humanity was older than 6000 years
Douwe Lubach, amateur archaeologist, State Inspector of Health Care in overijssel and Drenthe
In 1827, the eleven year old Douwe Lubach, born in Dokkum, enrolled as a pupil of the former Latin School in Haarlem.
He enjoyed the privilege at that school under the guidance of his father James Lubach, the deputy headmaster and J. Venhuizen Peerlkamp, who was rector, to follow education in a relatively small number of subjects, of which the Latin and Greek, the largest number hours devoted, so that the developing power of that education could come to its full right.
Those conditions were for a student with good construction, excellent memory and great work ethic certainly very beneficial to the mind of the scholar decent to take in and process, and thus we also find the influence animal more thorough study of the humanities in Lubach's whole afterlife and strive again. Good bases not only had the desire, but also the susceptibility given to further scientific development, and in the first place, the tendency to the classical literature.
No wonder it is so, that his father and Rector would have gladly seen that Douwe Lubach when he had the Latin School afgelo open in 1831, is fully able to devote to the study, but the materieele prospects in that direction, then at the time, were far from favorable, was informed waived; Moreover they found the sixteen-year-old too young for independent study and it was decided that Lubach the course of the clinical school would follow in Haarlem.
Four years he remained animal pupil school and was promoted in 1836 by the then commission for medical examination and toevoorzicht to urban healer. The 30 agreements March 1837 Lubach allowed to enroll as a student at the high school in Groningen, but after 1838 there the candidate's degree in medicine to have passed, he saw himself through sickness forced to abandon his studies, and he was first in 1839, and still only for half a year, return to Groningen.
He studied further, as far his condition it allowed him to Haarlem, visited sick establishments there and worked on his dissertation.
The 27 agreements and 28 agreements June 1842 he traveled to Groningen the doctoral exam, and on the second the first following July he was under Professor Baart de la Faille, PhD with a thesis "The oleo jecoris Aselli 'to Medicinae Doctor.
Now after that he became a physician praktiseerend Haarlem, which practice he held until 1866.
In those years Lubach did have to meet the occasion as prakticus with the nature and the course of spread of infectious diseases, including the cholera asiatica; but Lubach's work force allowed him except in his practice also laboring in other fields.
As soon as he was then called in another work subject, and he acted as general secretary of the Dutch Society for the abolition of liquor in 1845, and was in 1860 appointed Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at the Clinical School in Haarlem, which concerns he held until in 1865 school as a consequence of the laws of medical Thorbecke was lifted.
In 1860 Lubach was appointed Librarian Teyler's founding in 1864 and as a member of the Commission for Supervision of the secondary and grammar schools in Haarlem.
The establishment of the Medical Supervisory Service Lubach was appointed Deputy Inspector of North Holland, which he held concerns, until he was called to act in 1868 as Medical Inspector for the provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe.
He was authorized camps to choose residence, and so Lubach remained there working, until increasing hardhoorigheid and facial weakness he did decide to ask out his concerns honorably discharged on 82-year-old age.
From 1842-1897, so fifty-five years has worked Lubach in society and science, which was so dear to him.
Yet for five years he was the "otium cum dignitate 'enjoyment, still working, while he only neither was the physical strength permitted, and while he had the great privilege to see himself surrounded by his children and to be able to find the faithful care of his wife Johanna Christina Numan, which since 1851 him, so one and fifty years, has stood aside. Death eener adult daughter threw in the first years of Lubach's stay in Kampen a sad shadow on him and his family.
The 11th of October 1902 he died in Kampen.
Klein was the people, small in proportion to the great circle of compatriots with whom Lubach known, loved and was supposed who escorted his remains to the grave, but how many of his friends and associates had already preceded him, and how many were by their societal concerns prevented from coming to Kampen.
It was ao Dr. M. Pineal, Lubach's successor as Medical Inspector, who spoke a brief and cordial word to the quarry, simply, as Lubach was himself.
See here a brief mention of the momentous events of Lubach's life; a sketch, which can be supplemented with one listing his numerous larger and smaller writings and one indication of the many honors which have been bestowed Lubach cases, of which he himself testified: "Honour is proven me really enough.

and speaker already known in our whole country. Not surprisingly, it is therefore, he was received in camps with great respect and distinction, and they very soon his co-operation and information invoked in many areas.
Thus we find him soon working as chairman of the health committee, as a member and secretary of the supervisory committee on secondary education and the Trustees of the gymnasium, and after a time as a member of the council.
Lubach found in Kampen a circle of men of scientific study and extensive development, men like Dr. AHA Ekker, Dr. JC Splash Dr. Beck Vinckers, the former chief engineer of the Public Works Augier, Dr. WAJ van Dam, the minister Mich Else, the health officer Dr. W. It was the peculiar gifts of Lubach, which put him in this circle also the primus inter pares did his.
On inexhaustible workforce Lubach mated an extraordinarily great erudition in many fields, while he possessed a rare faithful memory 1 and an extraordinary gift for that which he knew equally entertaining to nominate as a clear manner. Where Lubach causeerde, they'd listened, and when he 1
Faithful in matters of scientific nature, but oddly failed to memory often, where ordinary things involved in daily life.

his beloved land, entered the hygiene, he knew difficult issues for developed laity to wear so for that every track he could, all learned from him, and anywhere in gezelligen circle, conversation and debate were alive, could at Lubach result the debate and from what he used to be or had just recently read before, new insights and raises thoughts that did suddenly say to him: "Yes, I still have something to write about in the Album.
But what his company and conversation of others are also doing so tempting, was his love and great erudition including in the field of literature, the history of zoology etc., so that others than hygienists and physicians are dealing sought to friction of ideas in their special field.
Lubach was no orator, seeking securities whose ingenuity sparks do shoot like a short, crackling fireworks: he spoke as he wrote, artless, good Netherland, his speech was quiet with no jumps, his thoughts gradually, examples were often chosen witty .
Of these, they have convinced themselves that to hear have had the privilege Lubach at the meetings of the association 'General Interest' in Kampen, when he spoke in this circle on issues such as drinking water and disease, on Tuberculosis, about Cremation etc.
Humanity was one of the fundamental traits of his character: gentle in his judgment of others, he was looking for in this still good, just pedantry nudged him, about bluff and affectation he was gay.
Which humanity appeared when he was called as an examiner to work, and to this end called him in First his job as an inspector with the examinations for pharmacists Clerks, but additionally Lubach had often sit on the Committee responsible for the decline of the First Natuurkundig- and the Literary-Mathematical examination.
Lubach was an examiner, who was looking for, what did the candidate, who lured to answer, and the good in those answers could be found that exam blunders could sharply separate from ignorance and stupidity, and never impatient or crusty, and yet how much patience was called on those exams, trying also to their sometimes long duration, no requisite; because was big in those days the number of those who volunteered themselves totally unprepared for these exams.
For Lubach was appointed as member of the Committee of the First Natuurkundig- and the Literary Mathematical Examination-a very welcome distraction in his normal work. She gave him the opportunity again to speak for a few weeks and pervert men as Buys Ballot, Miquel, Donders, Kerkhoff and so many others, so that, notwithstanding the exhausting of the questioning continued, either in Zoology, or in Latin, him intercourse took the exam at a time of relaxation, like a spiritual bath, which he opgefrischt and returned with new work force.
But how pleasant it that examination times were, yet he has vigorously participated in the movement to the first transfer physics exam to the University and to invalidate the Literary-Mathematical exam because the experience it learned that the number of skilled doctors, which was formed along the way, was too low. One remembers no doubt that with this change, or shortly thereafter, the institution the military medical students to Amsterdam was canceled.
A man with whom the Studium Generale was so highly regarded as in Lubach worked naturally and as a Trustee and as a councilor diligently inform the prosperity of education.
Lubach was decided in favor of the public, neutral education and a strong support for the teaching staff; this support they encountered who request forced by illness saw leave or even dismissal; it was he who strongly cooperated in the establishment of a pension fund also for teachers; and also those who were weak place in the application of practical pedagogy as long as it was possible only in some degree, a help and support in Lubach.
It was he who gave the impulse, to also do the girls' school for advanced elementary education classes give in Kampen in secondary education in Physics, Chemistry, Natural History, Cosmographie, as the then (1870) called on a trial basis, to to see if girls were also prone to follow such education; an experiment which succeeded so well that not a few of her, who had already traversed the school, as a listener ash those lessons followed faithfully.
As Trustee and councilor Lubach has given his influence and participation in the creation of a new building, which Gymnasium and Secondary School are united, certainly one of the finest schools in the Netherlands.
He already had to obtain powerful cooperated before and during the establishment of the Hat Law on Secondary Education of wider, general development and the introduction of the teaching of science in high honor circle, found in those days Kampen thankful labor field; the spirit was willing to cooperate, the municipal finances would permit it.
It speaks for itself that, when Medical Superintendent of the State Supervision Kampen settled him a place as President was prepared in the Public Health Committee there.
In that capacity, he gave the impetus to enter the barrels system, to set up a congregation-Pharmacy, determining eener regulation on building, remodeling and disapprove of housing, which in those days Kampen urgent need existed and is no less powerful Lubach's been cooperation to establish camps in the enjoyment of a good water supply.
That such a grand affair in a small town in those days (1879-1881), not without a struggle could come to stand, is obvious. By tijdroovende, comprehensive research, through writings and through the living word was previously the majority, too, that the more affluent residents of the usefulness of the thing to be convinced, and when it appeared, however, that no effort too much for the latter to Lubach was.
It would lead us too far, here are irrelevant, pine-lined battle in this letter to elaborate.
Only this.
Investigations had learned performed by the chemical member of the Commission, which was then confirmed by studies by others that the Ijsselmeer water close above Camps pure rare and, after filtration, if would be to use well water, while ...
