? [not certain this is him] Custom House, Clyde Street. Facing the River Clyde, this building is a throwback to Glasgow's earlier history as a great trading port. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city centre, dating from 1840, although the side wings are later additions to the classical façade .<br />It was designed and built "in house" by HM Customs. Their architect was John Taylor, and this was his only Glasgow project.<br />Sir John Taylor, KCB, FRIBA (15 November 1833 in Warkworth, Northumberland – 30 April 1912 in Surbiton Hill, Surrey) was a British architect. The assistant surveyor for London from 1866 onwards, he was known as a reliable (albeit pedestrian) architect and was responsible for several public building projects in the capital.
