Thorpe [d.1902], a barrister and literary historian, was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1875. His book is a delightful miscellany of Middle Temple anecdotes, discussions of its official and unofficial customs, legal lore, literary history and other topics discussed socially among Templars. Interesting in itself, this book is equally valuable as a document of the Middle Temple's institutional character at the turn of the century
