The following letter from Mr Tonna the Secretary of the United Service Institution addressed to Sir C. Malcolm was read:

Whitehall Yard, 8 Dec. 1846. ‘My dear Sir, I have great pleasure in informing you that the Council passed a resolution yesterday granting the loan of specimens to scientific societies for illustration on specific applications to them by letter from the Secretary of the Society, very faithfully yours, Tonna’
