Louis Schwabe (1798-1845), a silk manufacturer in Manchester
1833: January 1. Salis Schwabe, Esq., commenced calico-printing at the Rhodes Works.

The death of Edmund Salis Schwabe while on holiday in Canada was reported; "Flags were hoisted at half mast at the Rhodes Works, Middleton Liberal and Conservative Clubs, Rhodes New Bleach Works, Rhodes bowling green and the cricket ground. He suffered an attack of gout and depression that would result in his demise. Salis, aged 50, a widower for 20 years, was staying at the Windsor Hotel, Montreal. Early in the morning of 4 August 1891, a single gunshot was heard. Mr Schwabe was found in a state of unconsciousness with a bullet wound to his head. At the inquest the jury returned a verdict of suicide while in a temporary state of insanity." Again, this refers to another son of the Schwabes and the age and dates tie in with Edwin, listed in the earlier Census
