Dr Alfred Thomas Brett (1828-1896). He worked tirelessly to establish schools, orphanages, hospitals, served on the council and much more. He designed the ‘Audentitor’ coat of arms of Watford which sits above the Town Hall today. In his obituary, after listing the catalogue of his achievements, it remarks that Dr Brett had a slightly ‘unusual’ approach to his faith, viewing as he did that ‘all of his work was his worship’.
sometime President of the Watford Natural History Society
