Zacharie Le Rouzic , born December 24 , 1864 in Carnac , died in this same city in 1939 , is a French archaeologist and prehistorian .
Coming from a large and poor family, Zacharie Le Rouzic no longer goes to school after his 10 years, but is taken as the main collaborator of a Scottish archaeologist, James Miln , came to study the many megalithic sites of the place.
After Miln's death in 1881, Le Rouzic became the guardian of the J. Miln Museum founded by Robert Miln, James's brother, and in 1910 the curator . Through constant excavations and research, and numerous publications, he contributes to the development of the museum. The municipal council then adds its name after that of Miln to the name of the museum, after the donation of his own collection, in 1927 1 .
The Rouzic continues the archaeological prospection and becomes an internationally recognized archaeologist. In particular, it lists between 1911 and 1938 many megaliths in the inventory of historical monuments, including the cairn Gavrinis well known for its decoration and size. On the other hand, keen on photography , he takes snapshots of most of the sites he lists 2 : these photos are of great value for monuments that have since disappeared; many of them have also been used to print postcards 3 .
He was also the first chief of the Carnac fire department , which he led from 1908 to 1924 with the rank of lieutenant.
