Is this him??
Temporary Surgeon Roger Buddle. A New Zealander, a jolly good sort. Knows as little of doctoring as Maxwell, with whom he is great pals. Gets very tight every now and again, and is jolly good company. A very good bridge player when sober, they tell me. [The complete scrimgeour]
