The vice-consul at Monte Video, who receives 5001. per annum, or 100?. more than the same officer at Buenos Ayres, is Mr. G. S. L. Hunt, who served some time in the army, was a supernumerary clerk in the Librarian's Department of the Foreign Office in 1846, and in 1847 was appointed to his present post at Monte Video, where he for some time acted as consul-general.

I send this note by my friend Hunt, Consul Rio.[51] You will find him un de nous[52] and full of information about a country of which people in England do not appear to know much. He has also a letter to the boy Bunny.[53]
We leave for Santos about the end of this month. Admiral Elliot I believe accompanies us. It is a wretched hole but within 40 miles lies S. Paulo a more tolerable place of exile.
I wonder what Baker[54] will have to say about the Nile. The Anthropos must be very savage!
Hodgson will like Ceylon—Lady Bruce I hear has gone with him.[55] I hope sincerely that you and yours are flourishing. My kindest remembrances to the Lady and believe me ever
