1942.01.20 The Officers reported that when it became clear at the end of Dec. 1941 that Miss Martindell would be absent from duty for a considerable time, they had, acting under their emergency powers, engaged Miss Wendy Grant to act as temporary Assistant Secretary on a weekly basis, pending the meeting of the Council, and the Council approved their action. The Officers expressed their full satisfaction with Miss Grant’s work during the preceding three weeks and it was agreed that pending the appointment of a permanent Assistant Secretary, she should be invited to accept the post of temporary Assistant Secretary on a basis of termination by either party on one months notice, at a salary of £195 per annum to be paid monthly. The hours of attendance would be Mondays to Fridays 9.30 am to 5.30 pm with an hour’s interval for lunch (the time to be fixed in agreement with the Officers) and Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm.
1942.05.19 Assistant Secretaryship: the President made a verbal report on the action taken by the selection committee, which had considered the qualifications of three candidates, and, by virtue of the powers delegated to them by the Council had engaged the services of Miss F. Stallman. The appointment was to be a provisional one for the period of the war, terminable on six months notice by either party, and the salary was £260 per annum.
It was resolved that the services of Miss Grant should be retained for a further period of 6 weeks, that is, until the Annual General Meeting.
