Notes From Elsewhere

Maj. Peter Robert Foulkes- Roberts of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers who lived at Bron-y-Parc, Denbigh, N.Wales.

The most interesting item is Maj Foulkes-Roberts Officers record of service. It shows that he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers before the First World War. It details that he was Mentioned in Despatches and was also awarded a Military Cross. He was wounded on 23.3.18 and also taken as a Prisoner of War on that date.

I also have an Active Service Testament 1914 – 1915 which I assume belongs to him.

I have offered these items to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Museum.

I have done some research into Maj Foulkes- Roberts and found that the RAI has some letters home from an administrative officer in Nigeria, 1924-1944.

In the documents I discovered there are also a number of items that indicate that he spent some time working for the Crown Agents in  Nigeria after the war. There are a number of Invoices from a firm in London detailing items that I would expect he would require on his travels together with a Counterpart Ticket for the SS Appam when he sailed from Liverpool to Lagos on the 14th May 1924.

The final item is a photograph with a note included that would indicate that Mr. Foulkes-Roberts paid a visit to the St Peter’s Infant School in Ilo –Oluji on 18th January 1938.

The photograph shows a gentlemen who I assume is Maj Foulkes-Roberts sitting with a group of Nigerians who I would assume are teachers at the school. I have attached a copy of the photograph to this email [from Martin Pocock 11 Dec. 2020]
