By 1839, the Revd John Bannister, rector of Kelvedon Hatch, had rented a house for use as a school ... rector from 1832 until 1870. He was also the Perpetual Curate and later Vicar of West Worldham, Hampshire. However, he did reside in the rectory for eleven years from 1845 to 1856 with his wife, Matilda, and son, William, who was also a church minister. Despite being absent from the parish for some of the time, he provided funds for a school for the children of the parish. [Kelvedon Hatch, 1840-1920: a guided tour by Phil George]
