District Commissioner
death noted in the report of the council for 1918
Notes From Elsewhere
Born 1869; District Commissioner, Ikom, Eastern Province, Nigeria; Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, 1909-1918; died, 1917.
He served in the Boer War, but was invalided out. In the FCO he was appointed a Political Officer to help establish the boundary between German Kamerun and British Nigeria, before becoming a District Officer in the Cross River area. He died in Nigeria in a hospital in 1917, I think of disease. I need to do more work on this, especially in the FCO archives at Kew, and also trying to get hold of a death certificate, and to firm up dates of his appointments, etc. He was also FRGS, so they may have some info as well.
