1942.05.19 Assistant Secretaryship: the President made a verbal report on the action taken by the selection committee, which had considered the qualifications of three candidates, and, by virtue of the powers delegated to them by the Council had engaged the services of Miss F. Stallman. The appointment was to be a provisional one for the period of the war, terminable on six months notice by either party, and the salary was £260 per annum.
It was resolved that the services of Miss Grant should be retained for a further period of 6 weeks, that is, until the Annual General Meeting.
Secretary of Folk Lore Society
5 Feb. 1952 (a) Two letters received by the President from the Assistant Secretary were considered. It was resolved to offer the Assistant Secretary a salary of £550 per annum with effect from Jan. 1st 1952, subject to the concurrence of the Ways and Means Committee, which would meet as soon as possible after receipt of the Auditors’ Report, and subject to the following conditions:
1) That Miss Stallman, during such time as it was impossible, on account of her mother’s illness, for her to reach office by 10am attend office for seven working hours from 11am
2) That she maintain leave books for the staff, including herself, in which all absence and lateness should be recorded for the information of the Officers.
The President was, further, instructed to convey to Miss Stallman the views of the Council on certain matters which had been brought to its notice.
1 Apr. 1952 The situation which had arisen following the instructions issued to the Assistant Secretary by the Council at its meeting on 5 Feb. 1952, was considered.
It was resolved with regret to give three months’ notice with effect from 1 Apr. 1952, to Miss Felicia Stallman, Assistant Secretary, in accordance with the terms of clause 8 of the agreement of 12 Dec. 1946, between the RAI and Miss Stallman. It was further resolved to grant her three months’ special leave on full salary from 1 Apr. 1952. The superannuation payments referred to in clauses 6(a) and (b) of the above-mentioned agreement would be paid to Miss Stallman on 1 July 1952.
The Council placed on record its appreciation of Miss Stallman’s services.
