1859.06.09 The Hon. Secretary having stated that Sir James Emerson Tennent had finally resigned the presidency, it was unanimously resolved that the duty of filling up the vacancy for the year having devolved upon the Council, Sir James Clark should be requested to remain in the office of President during another year.

Sir James Emerson Tennent, 1st Baronet FRS (7 April 1804–6 March 1869), born James Emerson, was an Irish politician and traveller. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 5 June 1862.
