1881 Census: Middlesex Lunatic Asylum, Norwood, Middlesex. There are two medical superintendents: Joseph Pake Richards (married, aged 40, surgeon) and Henry Rayner (unmarried, aged 39, physician). Isabella Elizabeth Hicks is Matron.
Became a London County Asylum in 1889.
Henry Rayner, a convinced devolutionist who had become medical superintendent of the male wards at Hanwell in the early 1870s, and had therefore been a neighbour of Mausley's until 1876 ...
