In his profane life, GM Sanderson was a medical doctor and medical officer of the British imperial army, a circumstance that led him to be Head of Health in Malawi. There he dedicated himself to study the customs and rites of initiation of the natives, because his position gave him a privileged position and allowed him to gain the trust of the tribes in such a way that he was made a Master in his rites, a unique privilege never before granted to a white man This collection of experiences was reflected in his works A dictionary of the Yao language, A Yao gramar, An introduction to Chinyanja, Some marriage customs of the Wahenga, Notes on the habits of Blood-sucking flies, Notes on Glossina fusca, Games (not Game!) Of Central Africa, The relationship systems of the Wangonde and Wahenga Tribes, Nyassaland. Member of the Council of the Society of Masonic Studies and holder of most of the important degrees in Freemasonry, his comparative works were considered in the first decades of the 20th century one of the most valuable contributions from the point of view of the School of Anthropology of Masonic Research.
