death announced 2 May 1855: Mr Saull, one of our Council, was attached to science and connected himself with the Geological, Astronomical, Antiquarian and our own Society. He was a self-raised and self-educated man. his career might form an interesting chapter of the book – ‘The pursuit of knowledge under difficulties.’

William Devonshire Saull (1783–1855) was an English businessman, known now for his activities as geologist, antiquary and museum-keeper, philanthropist and supporter of radical causes.
Saull was elected Fellow of the Geological Society in 1831, and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 1841; he was also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society., and a member of other societies, including the Société Géologique de France,[2] and the London Phrenological Society.[1] He was on the Council of the Ethnological Society of London in 1850.
