From The Washbourne Family:...the late eminent physician, Dr Buchanan Washbourne, had, for some years previous to his comparatively early and lamented death, been collecting material for a purpose similar to that now placed in my hands. My object and desire having been made known to Mrs Buchanan Washbourne, that lady, on my introduction to her, immediately and unreservedly placed the whole of her late husband's papers relating to the subject at my disposal. The MSS. of which I had thus become possessed, I proceeded to examine, to collate, and co-ordinate ; and, with much information from other sources, to prepare for the press.
