James Olliff Griffits was the son of John Griffits, a saddler in Queen Square. James entered the legal profession and became the Recorder for Reading, he grew prosperous and was a benefactor of High Wycombe.
He was invested as a Queen's Counsel
Donor of Frogmore Gardens 1877, Founder of Free Library 1882
born in 1821. He married Mary Ann (?). He held the office of Recorder of Reading.
Championed the first High Wycombe Library - A Brief History of the Museum
Wycombe Museum started in 1932 as part of the new Library, Museum and Art Gallery building, the building which now houses the current Library. The main benefactor, James Oliff Griffits, had been building a collection of objects prior to this. He apparently held dinner parties where guests had to bring something to give to the Library & Museum
