Born at St Saviours, Southwark, London on 5 January 1877, son of George Nathan Maynard (1829-1904) and his wife Elizabeth Ann née Hopkins, who married at Buntingford, Hertfordshire in 1861. In 1881, a 3 year old living at 2 Poplar Walk Road, Lambeth with his 43 year old mother Elizabeth, a dressmaker, his father was absent, and siblings Flora Amelia 17 and Agnes Emily 15. In 1891 they had moved to Museum Street, Saffron Walden, Essex where his 62 year old father was curator of Saffron Walden Museum. In 1901, a 23 year old 'mechanical engineer in gun trade' boarding at 69 Beach Road, Sparkhill, Worcestershire, the home of 59 year old draper Alexander Massie and his family but his father died in 1904 when Guy took over his position as curator of Saffron Walden museum. He married at Saffron Walden in 1907, Julia Ada Elizabeth Pilgrem (5 January 1881-1961) and in 1911, a 33 year old living at Museum House, Saffron Walden with his 29 year old wife Julia and their 1 year old son Leslie George, born Saffron Walden. His daughter, Marjorie was born at Saffron Walden in 1918 shortly afterwards they came to Ipswich as curator of the Ipswich Museum 1920-1932 and secretary and editor of the Prehistoric Society 1921–1936. An honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1926 until his death but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1939 curator of museum, living at 17 Neale Street, Ipswich with his wife Julia and he died in the Gipping district of Suffolk in 1968, age 90.
