??Torquay Rowing Club was founded on 3rd May 1869 by Colonel H Luxmore 'when boats were made of wood and men made of steel'. The oldest sporting club in Torbay continues to promote rowing under the motto 'Verrimus Aequor Remis' meaning 'We Sweep The Sea With Our Oars'.
