Edouard Dupont, Dinant, 1841 - Cannes 1911 <br />Geologist and Director of the Natural History Museum in Brussels, born in Dinant, Edouard Dupont searched thoroughly for 1864-1868 caves limestone massif Furfooz-Falmignoul, Montaigle (Valley Molignee) and Goyet (Rau Samson) . <br />He collected a huge amount of bones and tools he looked stratigraphic position with great care. He introduced the results of his research in numerous publications which he summarized in his book: The man for the ages of the stone. Thanks to the determination of the stratigraphic position of the different levels of human occupation, it was possible for him to parallelize our quaternary industries and those of France. It is also Edouard Dupont, who discovered and identified the famous jaw Naulette of néandertaloïde kind. <br />In 1868 he became director of the Royal Museum of Natural History of Belgium. In 1869, he was elected a full member of the Academy. In 1884, he became president and director of the Science class. From July 1887 to February 1888, he traveled to the Belgian Congo. <br />November 31, 1909, the geologist, prehistorian, anatomist, paleontologist and team leader gives up his position as Director of the Royal Museum of Natural History.
